Herringbone cutting board made with oak end grain

This project was a birthday gift for my in laws.

Inspires by Peter Brown I wanted to make a cutting board with a herringbone.

Since it is fairly difficult for me to get my hands on exotic hardwoods I chose oak that I could source locally.

Even tho it does have a beautiful color it is not ideal for a cutting board since it had fairly open pores.

The board consists of over 80 individual pieces and had to be glued up in over 20 steps.

In total I spent around 2 days making and sanding it.

If I ever build another one I'll make sure to build a drum sander first, because this was just exhausting :D
